Have you ever wanted to start using essential oils but never knew where to start? Do you already use essential oils but never know which ones to carry with you on a daily basis? With so many oils on the market, it’s difficult to know where to start. Luckily, there is a simple solution: lavender essential oil.

Lavender: The Universal Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is known as “The Universal Oil.” It has so many beneficial properties, which has made it the most widely-used essential oil on the market.

Some of lavender’s many healing properties include:

  1. Analgesic
  2. Anticoagulant
  3. Anticonvulsive
  4. Antidepressant
  5. Antifungal
  6. Antihistamine
  7. Anti-infectious
  8. Anti-inflammatory
  9. Antimicrobial
  10. Antiseptic
  11. Antitumor
  12. Sedative

From basic skin irritations such as rashes or bug bites to deep cuts, I have seen lavender work to heal quickly and without the pain associated with other wound cleaning products.

How to Choose the Right Essential Oil

As lavender essential oil is so widely used, it has recently popped up in many stores, from high-end health food stores to grocery stores and even dollar stores. As a consumer, it's imperative to know that buying the wrong essential oil can do more harm than good to both you and your pets.

When choosing an essential oil, always keep the following points in mind:

Only Use Therapy-Grade Oils

Therapeutic grade is the ONLY grade that should ever be used for healing purposes. When using a therapeutic-grade oil, you know you are using the best, unadulterated oil from organic plant matter.

Higher Frequencies Are Better

Oils with the highest frequencies have more healing properties. Since higher frequency oils are more effective, you won't have to use as much of them as you would a lower frequency oil.

Choose Pure Oils Over Cheap Oils

Generally, lower priced “value” oils are not pure oils. They are usually cut with chemicals and/or synthetics to give you more oil per bottle for a cheaper price. These oils are not good to use on your pet or yourself. Some side effects of using adulterated oils include burns, rashes, and even life-threatening bodily harm.

Organic Doesn't Always Mean Better

An oil that is labeled “organic” can be the product of a plant that has been distilled more than once. Since 94 to 97 percent of a plant’s frequency comes out with the first distillation, oils that are distilled more than once have very little to no frequency left. Part of the reason why therapeutic oils are so beneficial is that they are the product of the first distillation.

Don't Invest in Only One Brand

Many people think that it's best to only use essential oils from one company. But I think that using essential oils from multiple companies can actually benefit us and our furry household members. I say this because the same essential oil can have different effects on different people and animals. To show this, we tested five lavender essential oils from five different companies, four pure, high-frequency therapeutic oils and one impure, low frequency non-therapeutic oil. When Jill and I tested the oils on ourselves, I tested for one therapeutic oil while Jill tested higher for another. Just as with Jill and I testing higher for oils from different companies, our fur babies will also test for different companies based on the oil's chemistry and frequency. This is why we supply essential oils from multiple companies at The Pet Beastro for our customers and our Health Assessments.

Please stop in and view the oils that we have for sale. Be sure to pick up a lavender essential oil to keep on hand for any situation you find yourself in this season!
