As more pet owners are becoming aware of the benefits of raw diets, we have many customers who are coming to us to help them tailor their pets' diets. At The Pet Beastro we work with you to find the best raw diet and brand for you and your pet. This means following a balanced ratio of meat, bone, organ, and vegetable.
The Importance of a Balanced Diet for Your Pet
Dr. Karen Becker, a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, stated that “an unbalanced raw diet of high quality fresh meat” in her opinion is “a greater risk to your dog or cat than feeding a cheap processed pet food.” She then goes on to explain that “commercially available pet food has to meet AAFCO standards for nutritional completeness, even if the quality, digestibility and species-appropriateness of ingredients are questionable.” Feeding a balanced meal will improve the overall health, where an unbalanced diet can cause nutritional deficiencies, disease, and even irreversible organ damage as seen by Dr. Becker. She also states that deficiencies can lead to major cardiovascular and organ changes within a few years.
In 1998, there were no companies offering availability to the Michigan pet owners to purchase balanced or bulk raw diets. When The Pet Beastro started its journey almost 10 years ago the companies were still very limited at that time. There has been a vast increase in raw options in just a few short years. So much so that the raw food options now available range from good, better to best categories. Of course “best” refers to the best option or style for your pets needs, but is also one that is free of pasteurization, chemicals, harmful synthetic vitamins and meat sourced from China.
Besides the previously listed requirements, we also believe that organ meats and vegetables are an essential part of a balanced diet especially when feeding bulk options that may be limited. Organs provide necessary amino acids that are used as building blocks to the body’s proteins. A deficiency in amino acids can lead to reduced energy levels and metabolism, skin and hair loss, digestive problems, sleeping disorders, stress, and poor health in general. Getting all the required essential amino acids helps to control obesity and malnutrition, and also helps to remove waste from the bloodstream. Vegetables add vitamins, minerals, and roughage into your pet’s diet. Fruits fed as treats are another way to boost your pet's diet with vitamins and minerals, as well as providing energy. Not only do fruits and vegetables provide things like calcium, fiber, and pectin; but they also stimulate good digestion, support the lymphatic system, promote healthy skin, enhance vision, provide antioxidants, fortify the immune system, strengthen bones, and improve the health of the heart.

Business longevity and reliability
Just like any major decision, we understand that cost can be an issue for raw-feeding customers, especially when you have several animals or large breed dogs involved. If feeding meat and bones fits your budget, we would highly recommend adding a multivitamin or a meat-free mixer such as Honest Kitchen Preference or Sojo’s to make sure your animal is eating a well balanced meal. We do our best to accommodate those needing large quantities of raw and hope you stop by the store to see what we have to offer.
