What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is the oldest form of healing. You may be surprised to hear that it was still used as the main form of medicine in the early 1900s. Back then, university medical programs taught homeopathy.

Naturopathy is the oldest form of healing. You may be surprised to hear that it was still used as the main form of medicine in the early 1900s. Back then, university medical programs taught homeopathy.

Naturopathy is a whole-body therapy, focusing on healing the whole person or animal (mind, body, and soul) and working with the cause of specific ailments. It is based on the understanding that the body can heal itself when given the right tools.

Naturopathic forms of healing allow the immune system to be strong. They make you and your pet not only feel better, but also live longer and require less trips to the doctor.

Naturopathic Modalities

Naturopathic methods are founded in the healing power of nature. These modalities include:

A Traditional Naturopath (ND) vs. a Medical Naturopathic Doctor (MND)

When researching naturopathic healing for you or your pet, it’s important to consider the differences between a traditional naturopath and a medical naturopathic doctor.

For example, a traditional naturopath…

  • Performs non-invasive procedures
  • Provides education on herbs and other natural living
  • Teaches benefits of a healthy lifestyle
  • Counsels on nutrition and historic remedies
  • Is non-exclusive in practice and philosophy
  • Gives hope to help heal

On the other hand, a medical naturopathic doctor…

  • Performs surgery
  • Prescribes drugs
  • Diagnoses and treats illnesses
  • Aspires to become your primary care physician without thorough training
  • Is not acknowledged by American Medical Association (AMA)
  • Uses invasive techniques
